Popcorn Credit and Low Sales Makeup Fee

posted Dec 10, 2012, 6:44 PM by Dan Ambrosiani

We had mentioned that we are supported by popcorn sells to provide for our programs. We have all seen that 70% of popcorn sells goes to scouting, but how much of that comes back to the local unit. There is no simple answer because there are incentives to increase a unit’s participation. It can be anywhere from 30%-41%. We have been averaging around 36%. We generally run an annual program on around $110 per scout. $20 comes from our portion of annual dues. The other $90 comes from popcorn sells. The sells needed to hit that amount is $250 in sells or about 15 items. We incent our “sales people” through the prizes that Trails End provides and our own “popcorn credit”.

In the past we have provided “credit” to scouts that sell over $350 is sells. Because of lower sales this year, we are lowering the amount from $45 to $35 for the “popcorn credit”. This credit may be used for outdoor scouting activities such as campouts, camp-ins, or day events.

In fairness to all, our pack has followed other packs in assessing families where the contribution through popcorn sells did not meet the target. This “makeup fee” makes up that difference and provides families with a choice of how to support the pack.

Sales over $350, the scout receives the above mentioned $35 credit.
Sales between $250-350, no credit, no fee.
Sales between $150-250, a $25 fee.
Sales between $50-150, a $50 fee.
Sales between $0-50, a $75 fee

Emails will go out to individual families with their sales numbers and the makeup fee that will fund our programs. I hope you will understand this process, but if not feel free to contact Daniel.
